ADIABATIC BATCH REACTOR

Homogeneous Reactions: An adiabatic batch reactor is a closed system with no input and output streams. This reactor is operated under conditions like adiabatic (Temperature of Reaction Mass keep on changing), Perfectly mixed (composition of reaction mixture is uniform throughout), and constant volume (volume of the reaction mixture within the reactor remains constant, there is no appreciable change in the density of reaction mass). This set-up is used to study a catalytic homogeneous reaction under adiabatic condition.
The set-up consists of a Dewar flask of capacity 1 lit. fitted with a stirrer. The flask is double insulated by ceramic wool insulation. Temp. is observed from digital temp indicator. The whole setup is mounted on a rigid M.S. frame.
The educational software and data –logging package has been developed for this unit. It is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab Smith”. It provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software runs in Windows XP. It is capable to tabulate the samples readings according to requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. Interfacing the set up with computer using software can do the real time data acquisition. Data can be transferred in Excel Files for further calculations, plotting graphs etc. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc
EXPERIMENTATION:
  • To study the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide with water in presence of an Iodide catalyst.
  • To determine the reaction rate constant from time-temperature data.
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Electricity Supply: Single Phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 5-15 amp combined socket with earth connection.
  • Floor Area required: 1 m x 0.5 m.
  • Instruments, Laboratory wares and Chemicals required for analysis as per the system adopted. Computer P IV, with DVD drive, Windows XP and MS Office XP version preloaded. One USB slot free for hardware.

An ENGLISH instruction manual consisting of experimental procedures, block diagram etc. will be provided along with the Apparatus.
The whole set-up is well designed and arranged on a rigid structure painted with industrial PU Paint.
