Homogeneous reaction:   An adiabatic batch reactor is a closed system with no input and output streams. This reactor is operated under conditions like adiabatic (Temperature of Reaction Mass keep on changing), perfectly mixed (composition of reaction mixture is uniform throughout), and constant volume (volume of the reaction mixture within the reactor remains constant, there is no appreciable change in the density of reaction mass). This set-up is used to study a catalytic homogeneous reaction under adiabatic condition.

The set-up consists of a Dewar flask of capacity 1 lit. fitted with a stirrer. The flask is double insulated by ceramic wool insulation. Temp. is measured by digital temp indicator. The whole setup is mounted on a rigid M.S. frame.

The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Lab view of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab Smith”. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.

XPERIMENTATION:
  • To study the hydrolysis of acetic anhydride with water in presence of an acid catalyst (H2SO4). To predict the degree of conversion from time-temperature data.
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Instruments, Laboratory wares and Chemicals required for analysis as per the system adopted. Computer System: Pentium IV with DVD Drive, Windows XP, MS-Office XP version pre-loaded. One USB slot required in PC for DATA ACQUISITION CARD.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Reactor Material Stainless Steel, Capacity 1 Ltrs. (Approx) Insulated with Ceramic wool
Agitator Material Stainless Steel Impeller and shaft coupled with FHP motor and Control Unit for variable speed.
Temp.  measurement  Temperature transmitter (1No), 0-199.9°C
Control panel comprises With Standard make on/off switch, Mains Indicator etc.
An ENGLISH instruction manual consisting of experimental procedures, block diagram etc. will be provided along with the Apparatus.
The whole set-up is well designed and arranged on a rigid structure painted with industrial PU Paint.
