DESCRIPTION :

The setup consists of four cylinder, four stroke petrol engine connected to dynamometer for loading. It is provided with necessary equipment and instruments for combustion pressure and crank-angle measurements. These signals are interfaced to computer for P-q & P-V diagrams. The set-up also consists of air intake measuring unit, fuel measuring unit, temperature measuring unit and an exhaust gas calorimeter. 
 
The setup enables study of engine performance for brake power, indicated power, frictional power, BMEP, IMEP, brake thermal efficiency, indicated thermal efficiency, Mechanical efficiency, volumetric efficiency, specific fuel consumption, A/F ratio and heat balance. Rotameters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter water flow measurement.
 
The educational software and data logging package has been developed for this unit. It is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab Smith”. It provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. Interfacing the set up with computer using software can do the real time data acquisition. Data can be transferred in Excel Files for further calculations, plotting graphs, printing etc. Sample readings can be tabulated according to requirement of experiments under study and results obtained can be compared.
EXPERIMENTATION:
  • To determine Brake Power, fuel consumption and calculate specific fuel consumption, BMEP, Brake Thermal Efficiency at various loads.
  • To determine Air Intake and calculate volumetric efficiency, A/F ratio
  • To determine Indicated Power and calculate Friction Power, IMEP, Indicated Thermal Efficiency & Mechanical Efficiency.
  • To study of Engine Performance and study of pressure V/S crank angle (P-q) and pressure V/S volume (P- V).

 

UTILITIES REQUIRED :
  •  Continuous Clean and Soft Water Supply @400 LPH (max.) at 1Kg/cm2 for engine and calorimeter 600 LPH at 2kg/cm² for Hydraulic Brake Dynamometer. Provide ½” BSP size connection.
  •  Fuel: 25 Ltrs. Per run, Lubricating Oil: 7 Ltrs.
  •  Electric supply 220V AC, 50 Hz, 15 Amp, Single Phase
  •  Computer System: Pentium IV with DVD Drive, Windows 7 and MS Office pre-loaded. One USB slot required in PC for Data Acquisition CARD.
