DESCRIPTION:
The present set-up is designed to study the friction head losses through pipes, fittings, and flow metering devices. Four different ID sizes smooth pipes and one artificially roughened pipe is connected in parallel. A valve arrangement is provided to operate the one pipe at a time. Various types of fitting are also fitted with pressure taps to conduct the experiment. Flow meters (Venturimeter and Orificemeter) is also accompanies the set-up. For water circulation and flow rate determination sump tank & measuring tank are provided.
 
The educational software and data –logging package has been developed for this unit. It is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab Smith”. It provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software runs in Windows XP. It is capable to tabulate the samples readings according to requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. Interfacing the set up with computer using software can do the real time data acquisition. Data can be transferred in Excel Files for further calculations, plotting graphs etc. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.
 
EXPERIMENTATION:
  • Confirming the relationship between head loss due to fluid friction and velocity for flow of water
  • To determine the head loss associated with flow through pipe fittings.
  • To study the differential head devices for measurement of flow rate. 
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Electric Supply, single phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 5-15 Amp combined socket with earth connection.
  • Water Supply (Initial Fill)
  • Floor Drain Required.
  • Floor Area Required : 3 m x 0.75 m
  • Computer P IV, with DVD drive, Windows XP and MS Office XP version preloaded. One USB slot free for hardware.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Pipes (5 Nos.) 4 Smooth bore and one roughened bore. Size range between ID 4.5mm to 17 mm.
Fittings 90° Bend (Small), 90° Bend (Large), 90° Elbow, 90° Mitre, 45° Elbow, 45° Y, 90° T, Sudden Enlargement & Contraction,
Valves Gate Valve, Ball Valve, Globe Valve.

DPT For measuring differential pressure, 0-10000 mm of WC, output 4-20 mA

Control Panel Comprises of Standard make On/Off Switch, Mains Indicator, etc.

The whole set-up is well designed and arranged on a rigid structure painted with industrial PU Paint.
