DESCRIPTION:
A Pitot Tube is used to measure the local velocity at a given point in the flow stress. A pitot tube of standard design made of copper/SS is supplied and is fixed below vernier scale. The vernier scale is capable to measure the position of Pitot Tube in transparent section. The pipe has a flow control valve to regulate the flow. Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank and a centrifugal pump etc. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in water line to conduct the experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of water is measured by flow sensor.
 
The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Lab view of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab smith”. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the   investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.
 
EXPERIMENTATION:
To find the point velocity at the center of a tube for different flow rates of water and calibrate the Pitot Tube.
To plot velocity profile across the cross section of pipe.
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Electricity Supply: Single Phase, 220V AC, 50Hz, 5-15 amp combined socket with earth connection.
  • Water Supply (Initial Fill).
  • Floor Drain required.
  • Floor Area Required: 1.5 x 0.75 m.
  • Computer System: Pentium IV with DVD Drive, Windows 7, MS-Office pre-loaded. One USB slot required in PC for DATA ACQUISITION CARD.
