DESCRIPTION:
The present Reciprocating Pump Test Rig is a self-contained unit operated on closed circuit basis containing a sump tank. The set-up consists of a Double acting, Single Cylinder Reciprocating Pump coupled with a DC Motor Power input to the DC Motor is varied by means of a Thyristor controlled DC Drive to vary the RPM of motor. RPM of the pump is measured by Proximity sensor. Flow of water is measured by Flow Sensor, pressure is measured by Pressure Sensor and Vacuum is measured by Vacuum Sensor. This unit is capable to study the characteristics of Reciprocating Pump. The instrumentation done enables the user to study the same with ease.
 
The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Lab view of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by “Lab Smith”. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.
 
EXPERIMENTATION:
  • To determine total head, pump efficiency and volumetric efficiency of the reciprocating pump.
  • To plot Head vs Discharge, Pump efficiency vs Discharge.
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Water Supply.
  • Floor Drain.
  • Electricity 1 kW, 220 V, Single Phase.
  • Computer System : Pentium IV with DVD Drive, Windows 7, MS-Office pre-loaded. One USB slot required in PC for DATA ACQUISITION CARD.
